Decimal Operations: PD Videos for Teachers

Video screenshotOur project created a collection of videos to help teachers provide effective instruction and support for students with mathematics difficulties. The videos below focus on high-priority decimal content that tends to be challenging for students. Research recommendations highlight the importance of using and connecting concrete, semi-concrete, and abstract representations to support student learning. Using base ten blocks, a concrete representation, helps students build understanding of decimal place value and operations. These videos demonstrate how to use base ten blocks to represent and perform decimal subtraction, multiplication, and division. The approaches are applicable for intervention classes and core math classes.
