Alice Paul introduced the idea of an Equal Rights Amendment and many of us
remember the effort to in the 1970's to add such an amendment to the U.S.
Constitution--defeated in 1978 when the Illinois state legislature failed
to
ratify it by a handful of votes. The forces and many of the same people,
who which so violently opposed the ERA, are the very same folks, using
another name, tried to so hard which tried very hard to eviserate Title IX
last fall. Our next best hope is to continue to push for the enforcement of
Title IX and the continued funding for equity--meager as it is.
